A friend needs replacement parking lights for his 58 GMC. Jim Carter lists them but his supplier has gone AWOL so he can't fill the order. Anyone know of a source?

On '58-'59 GMCs the park light housing is made of plastic and it didn't stand the test of time. It is this that the guy is looking for, not the lens.

Hello GMC Nuts,
Hang tight you 58-59 GMCers... full-blown perfect looking replicas of the 58-59 GMC park lamp bezel, bracket & cone lens will be offered soon. They are about 80% done of the final stage, just need to apply the mirrored silvered finish on the backside of the plastic bezels. The replacement cone shape lenses are exactly perfect to an NOS lens, even has the small wording that say CATS EYE No 85! I'm not the one reproducing these lights... but I will be purchasing a set for sure!!
Here are a few photos to drool over....

Chevy park light lenses will not replace GMC park lights.

RAK, those lenses are for a 1955-57. This thread is about 1958-59 GMCs. But thanks for trying to help.

Any idea on cost?

They sure look nice.

I talked with a guy a couple years ago that paid $1350 for a complete NOS set on eBay.

Any progress on this yet?

Are 58/59 GMC lights being reproduced?

Yes My leg feels like I need orthopedic shoes... or shoe as it were.

I love how people read something and choose to interpret it to mean what they think they read..... sigh...

Back to the original track though... I am in possession of one nearly complete drivers side plastic lens. I assume original... it fits the hole. I have looked into having it scanned and then digitally inverting it to acquire the passengers side form then having a 3D printer either form a piece or forms to mold with.

Is there still interest beyond my own selfish desires to use 21 Century tech to build obsolete parts?
Anybody have a 3D printer?

I haven't heard there were any coming... sooner or later.

This thread started in 2010. Someone then claimed they were in work.

Hello - first post to this site. I recently towed home my wife's grandfathers 59 GMC 1/2 ton longbed. I got her running and completed the brakes, lines and cylinders. Most of the parts were in the back of the camper.

One item that I was also pleased to find were brand new Park Lights. Yep the odd shaped thin plastic thing with silver spray paint on the back.

(deleted the part about he's thinking about making reproductions.)

Welcome to Stovebolt. If you had read "Why posts are edited moved or deleted" you would have known better than to try to sell parts in General Truck Talk. Good luck in your venture. When and if you get some made post an ad in Truck Parts For Sale.

I would have sent this in a PM but new members can't receive them.

Thanks for understanding,

Charlie,

I apologize. I had no idea that that I was doing was wrong. Never occurred to me to read something called "Why posts are edited moved or deleted", since I had not yet had a post edited or deleted. Also I did not post in the Truck Parts for Sale, because I was responding to the thread in this section, which was discussing somebody making reproductions. Since I was not selling anything but only looking for interest in response to the thread it seemed that all was good.

Sorry.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread since I'm in need of a pair of '58 park lenses. Any news out there on them?

As far as I know, Rich has not been successful in building a marketable part. You can check what he has done in the blog listed in his signature.

I'll add to this. I made some for my 58 buy making a card board pattern for the backing part. Then cut it out of a piece of 11 gauge sheet metal. I then used some amber, I know they should have been clear, 57 turn signals to finish it off. From a distance other than the color you can't tell they're a copy. I'm a little computer deficent or I'd post a pic link, but my lights were living large at the reunion this month. Larry
