Pulled the carb off a 235 in a COE and found the wet side in fairly poor shape. It all came apart except for the acc pump. Boiled the carb and then soaked in carb cleaner. The plunger is free now but not coming out. Any ideas?? Also can a guy bead blast the inside of the bowl or is that a bad idea?? Who sells the best rebuild kit?? Thanks for the help!

I'd be cautious of bead blasting, the chances of getting sand inside and not being able to get it out are high. You can get a good quality kit from many of the vendors that support this site.

Try soaking with penetrating oil and a heat gun.... and as Don said, avoid the bead blaster !!!!!

Thanks, I'll forget the bead blaster and I did call The Carburetor Shop today. He said he was 3 years out but he did have some for sale at $1800.00. I guess I will talk to the local collectors and rod guys to see if a old school mechanic is around. Thanks for the advice!

I have had good luck using an ultrasonic cleaner. The heat gun is another excellent idea. Just don't get it hot enough to warp the body.

Trick with working on these carbs is to go slow and easy. You will get it.

You can do a lot of slow and easy for $1800.!!!!

I've been tinkering with it every night and I'm feeling more confident that it can be salvaged. The local farmers type Napa has a guy about 77 that only works part time and has helped me several times with old welder engines. He found me a rebuild kit yesterday. Boy I wish there were more parts guys like him!
