I would like to get this 4 speed tran. up to speed. It is just geared to slow to go from town to town an stay with the group I would like to go with. I have a 1 ton 48 chev panel and the first gear will not get me across the street. Do you know what is in the truck and what I should go to. Thanks for your help.

Your truck probably has a SM420. The final ratio is 1 to 1 so changing the transmission out would require a transmission with overdrive. It has been talked about many times here and if you do a search you'll find lots of discussion about it.

Also consider axle gears and or a whole newer rear axle. Taller tires also help with speed.

The 4.10 rear differential from a 67-72 truck that used the same "banjo" style axle will improve your top speed significantly. 1-tons came from the factory with 5.14 gears.
