Also it puts some smoke out the tail pipe. Where should i start here?

Does smoke come out the breather cap when it is running? They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. When I replaced the valve cover with a chrome one i have to bend it to fit right and it bent the a lip out in the backside and it was leaking out well I removed it and straightened it out and put a new cork gasket on and ran the truck and it's still smoking

cm If you can't fix it with a hammer and screwdriver, you need a bigger hammer.1965 Chevy C10 | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 25 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 25 | yeah it is. It smoked before and i knew it was cuz the bent lip on the valve cover so i fixed that and its still smoking now

Sounds like you have an exhaust leak at the manafold. If so it should be making some hissing noise. Also sounds like you either have a valve seal problem or rings. You claim no blow-by but are you sure? Take the breather out of the valve cover and give it a few revs. If you get a lot of smoke coming out the valve cover it's time to replace the seals. Did you do a compression test on the engine?
