I went to start up the 46 with the 216 after it had been sitting for maybe 2 weeks and noticed there was no oil pressure. I shut it down, checked the gauge, a stewart warner, and it moved after i pumped air into it, ran it with the oil pump boss open with no oil coming out. I finally took out the distributor and primed the pump with a drill and allthread rod cut for the pump. It spun freely for a few revs but then caught and i could see oil going up the oil pressure gauge tubing with pressure now reading on the gauge. I ran errands on the truck all weekend with the usual 10 to 15 lbs of oil pressure no problem. Could this be a sign of future trouble or is this a common occurance???

Thanks Rick......

If you've got heavy oil, it does sometime take a few seconds to "build" pressure. Also, if you have an oil filter, sometimes the air trapped in the top can act like a spring, taking a moment to compress, before the gauge starts to move. Remember, the rods are getting oil, as they have the dippers.

Are you right up to the "full" mark?

Is it true that the dippers are picking up oil if the pump is not filling the troughs?
