Mike B | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 | Its got a lot of seldom seen components such as the 348 engine, auxiliary transmission, straight air and the early style Eaton 3 speed rear end that was only used for a few years. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,214 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,214 | Crenwelge, You are right, this is a rare truck. It has the Power Divider Aux Transmission and Corporate GM Single Speed 15K Rears. The power divider is 3-speed (low-low, low and direct), it also has the ability to disengage the rear rear. Also, the 348 was the only motor available in the 1958/59 Sereies 90 and 100 trucks. Someone is going to have a neat old truck! GMC only used the corporate rear up to the 370 model. The 400 and larger used either a Rockwell or Eaton. Eaton had a similar looking contraption, but went to a through shaft like Rockwell. I have GMC books from 1955 through the early 60's from the 100 series up to the 970 series, and I don't see anything like this Chev has. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 73 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 73 | Mike B,
It really does not matter 56 or 57. I want to use it as a tractor to pull an 48 ft enclosed car trailer. Thanks for the reply.
