Of the last few weeks the carb, after the engine is shut down, will not squirt gas when the linkage is actuated. It requires that the carb be primed by pouring some gas in it before the engine will start. What is the reason for this? Thanks for the help.

the accelerator pump needs gas in the bowl to work, if the carb is full and the pump doesn't 'squirt', it needs replacing, but in that case it's not likely to be working properly at any time - if the pump doesn't squirt and the carb is empty, you need to crank it awhile to get the gas recharged

Minutes later, with the engine off, the carb will not squirt gas when the linkage is manually actuated. Thus I always have to prime it.

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,886 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,886 | Does the truck run normal once starting? no dead spots off idle? no back fires, bulks, or shutters? If it runs normal, check the fuel delivery and filters, if it acts up, replace the accelerator pump.
