Hope someone has had this issue before. I spent this winter going thru a 350 chevy engine finally got in done and instaled in my 1958 60 series truck. fired it up yesterday ran like a top. The problem is the clutch acts like it is not disengaging. But when I crawl under the truck and someone pushes the clutch pedal in I can see the clutch open up, If I start the truck in gear it will take off even if the clutch is pushed in all the way. Does anyone know what I did wrong.

Hy windmillguy, it sounds like the clutch disc may be stuck to the flywheel. If you have something big and solid around, a tree, a wall, a building, you could back the truck right up against that object, and with the clutch depressed start the truck, or at least try to start the truck, this may break the clutch disc free. You can also try sliding a thin putty knife between the flywheel and the clutch disc, while someone is holding the clutch pedal down, hope that helps.

Could you have got the disc in backwards?

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Thanks for the advice I will try putty knife first. Another thing I forgot to mention was it won't move if I start it in high gear. Does that mean anything? Knowing me I very could have gotten any and everything backwards. thanks

Sure sounds like the clutch plate is in backwards.
I have done that.
