was the th400 trans ever used with the 250 6 cyl?as alsway,need help,,,

Hy johnhull, I can't say for certain that they were ever spec'd together, but there is no reason that I can think of why they can't be used together, hope that helps.

The 400 will drain a lot of power from the 250 unless you beef up the 250. Would be better to use a TH350 with the 250 six. (Or at least that's been my experience. Others mileage may vary). But yes, it will work.

I've seen 292/TH400 combinations that worked pretty well together, mostly in step van or 1-ton service truck applications. I don't think they were original-equipment. One round track race team I worked with used a retired bread truck set up that way to tow the race car trailer to the track. We had a pretty well set up mobile shop in the truck.

Say Hot Rod, you ever use a TH350 torque converter on a th400?

the 292/400 trans was acommon factory setup.i have 292 out of 1969 pickup.i would use the 292 but i havedone enough hacking on my 54 frame.

just a little info,,my neihbor who has work for UPS since he was 17(he,s now 42)tells me they used the 292/400 set up long before they went to the ford diesel.it is agood eng.the staggered motor mount are keeping me staying with 250...

That's a sneaky trick to increase the lockup RPM. We used to do that on the round track cars in the street stock classes where they required us to run an automatic transmission.

now that you havebrough up 350 torqe convertor,ihave another quistion.would a 350 torque convertor be the same as a700r4 torque convertor?i was wondering about using 700 convertor with my 400 trans.

No, the 350 torque converter will not work with the 700 or the other way around. The 700 has a clutch that locks up in it, while the 400 does not. The snout where it goes into the pump is different size too.
