Please help!! Looking for a SWB stepside bed for my 1966. I found a 67-72 in real nice shape. I'm told that the "BOX" of the stepside is the same all the way up to '86, but the fenders are all different. Will 66 fenders work?? I see that the 67-72 has marker lights on the side of the well and an emboss ridge also. Thanks!!

Also, what fits well in the way of a tilt wheel in my 66??
Thanks again!!

'55-'66 Chevy truck stepside beds are interchangeable and have the same style fenders.

Yes they will, with some modifications. When I bought my '65 it had a 67-72 bed on it. I kept the box and replaced the fenders and the steps with the correct ones for the truck, which required drilling new holes in the fenders. You will also need the steps that match the fenders, they curve differently to match the fender contour. I also used 1" spacers between the frame and the cross sills to get the bed to what IMO is the correct height.

Check out my build thread, starting with post #4 for fender installation data and post #101 for bed 1" spacer details.

I used a 74-76 short step bed on my '66 and actually like the look of it better than stock fenders. The lines seem to fit better. Check these images. Good Luck

Thanks John. I appreciate the help and the detailed pictures. I really like the Impala tails.
