I have couple 6 volt generators and a starter and a alternator that I want to get out of the garage. Is there a buisness in rebuilding them> The one guy I got that would take them said he would give me 20 dollars for them. Thats hardly worth the time and gas. any suggestions? I don't see a great deal of them being sold on ebay either. A core charge for a starter is 70 dollars. I would think that is what they are worth.

you could try to use them for cores when you buy the 12V versions - good luck on that .... most of us here make an effort to save old parts, not make a profit with them, they're worth whatever someone will pay .... you could put a post in the parts for sale here, or take them to the scrap yard, if that's worth your time and gas, or you could just throw them away

I have been given 5 starters and 5 or 6 generators by people who were cleaning up after engine or charging system upgrades. If somebody is willing to pay shipping, I'd suggest giving 'em away. Two starters or generators will fit in a USPS large flat rate box ($14.95) and they stay under the 70 pound max. weight. The guy who offered you 20 bucks each as cores is being very generous. If you want to go to the effort of a teardown, cleanup, and checkout they'll be worth considerably more, but you would need to be willing to guarantee they're in working condition to get the sort of price you're suggesting. Good luck!

I don't believe in scrapping anything off a old truck that could still be of use to someone. The old stuff isn't made anymore and is getting hard to find. I have given away a starter, generator, and carb among other things to folks who live in my area. And have given away some stuff to folks here on the forum. I have had folks here on the forum help me out so I figure I will pass it on to soomeone else who needs some parts. If nothing else you could give the parts to a charity store like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. My wife picked up a 55 2nd series truck bench seat that was in almost perfect condition from a thift store for $35.00. The lady there said that her husband was going to use it outside his shop to sit on. She decided it could go for better use, and it did.
