For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 34 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 34 | The fuel gauge on my '52 panel always reads 1/4 full when the ignition is on, whether the tank is full or empty. Turn the key off and the needle drops to "E". The ground, etc. appear to be okay, everything checks out as per Shop Manual. Maybe the resistor to drop the 12 volts to 6 is gone? Any clues? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy chevypanel52, it could be the sender in the fuel tank, if you can remove the wire at the sender and ground it temporarily you should see gauge movement with the ignition on, if the gauge goes to full then it would appear the sending unit is not functioning correctly, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | I suspect the float rod on the sending unit is stuck in place but you won't know that for sure until/unless you pull the sending unit.
