Just purchased a 1950 3100 with original 216. Have not had a chance to identify existing single barrel.
Truck drives well but there is a whistle coming from carburator upon acceleration.
Could this be a vacuum leak, throttle shaft leak?

Kurt | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 341 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 341 | Yes, it could be a vacuum leak and the throttle shaft is a possible culprit. Try wiggling the throttle shaft by hand to see if there's any play at all. The Rochester I had on a 216 manifold (235 engine) had that problem causing, I assume, a bad flat spot on acceleration. I switched to a Carter on the correct 235 manifold and it now runs great.
