Help please, I have a 1953 3800; it does not have duel rear wheels. It also then does not have the vaccuum brake assist. It was never set up to really carry a full ton very long or far. I am certain it is all original but the rear brakes are not like my book. My book says they are to be adjusted by turning two pinion studs.

But my rear brakes have one conventional adjustment star at the bottom of the drum. Just like a 1/2 ton I believe. But then I dont know if it has the anchor pin as the 1/2 ton does. It got dark so I can't go back out and look.

Is this right? How do I know what shoes and cylinders to buy? Thanks if anyone can shead light on this.

Can you post some pix of what you've got? perhaps the PO swapped out the rear end to a later style. Sound like a later Bendix style braking system.

I believe that 1953 is the year that the 1 Ton brakes changed to the Bendix brakes and thus that is what you should have and what you have described.
