I am getting some body work done here in Tulsa, OK. and was wondering what everyone thinks is about right. I am paying 45.00 an hour and this is what they are doing

both rear cab corners
inside step and rocker panel combo drivers side
floor pan and part of toe panels on both sides.
and a couple of small patches.

all I am asking them to do is repair the panels and spray it so she wont rust. I was just wondering about how many hours these should take.

Thanks for any input.

impossible for anyone except them to say how long it'll take, ask for an time estimate, depends on their skill level, experience with real restoration work, and motivation to get it out the door - at $45 you're getting a deal, some shops will use our resto-jobs as 'fillers' when they need a break from more lucrative insurance jobs or don't have enough of those to keep busy, and charge less per hour but takes weeks or even months to finish up

a floor pan can take quite awhile as that's where the cab supports are and they may have to do some non-trivial fabrication there - complete step replacement also takes some fabrication, front and back .... could be 500, but don't be surprised if it's over a thousand

After doing mine myself, I would guess the work you describe to be a minimum of 40 hours and probably more like 80 for a novice like me. If you are lucky the professionals can do it quicker and more efficient but I wouldn't count on it. My guess is they don't know what they got into as their business is probably new parts changer, prep and paint in nature.

Based on experience in my own panel truck project, you'll need to factor in the
set up and measurement time when doing the floor/toe panel/inner/outer rocker
work. All of these things at once is not insignificant.

They will have to also use new floor supports under that floor. That's what the body bolts run through, so it all has to be in vertical and horizontal alignment so the door posts/doors/inner fenders end up being where they need to be and fit properly .
They may need to weld in temporary supports for the body before they begin, to maintain proper alignment. If your hinges need work or replacing .... now is the time to do it, so it all fits good after all that nice new steel is welded into place.

Are they charging you $45 an hour Flat rate or hourly? If it's flat rate, how many hours are they charging you for? And how much paint work are they doing?
With out seeing it and knowing how much paint work they are doing, im guessing probably 40 hours worth of work, plus paint & materials
That's without seeing it.

If the work is quality work and a shop with a good rep for quality work then you are going to make out really well. Around here you will be more than like to pay $85.00 hr. to $95.00hr. rate.

Here is a example of shop rates for a ins. job that was quoted Body Labor $59.00/hr., Paint Labor $59.00/hr. Paint Supplies $30.00/hr. This is a excate quote for my back bumper repair. I have a $250 deductible plus the Ins. pay $335.62 for a grand total $585.65 this spot is only a 10" X 6" area.

By the way this is a quality body repair shop in my area here in Calif. I have saw jobs that have been done to different floor, door, quarter panels ect. for $2500.00 to $5000.00 before painting.

Hey,Don, are you serious? I would kill to make $85-$95 an hour. That's about what it should be.
Here in Mass the insurance companys pay us $34-$40 an hour depending who the insurance company is.
Id even be happy with $59 an hour.
At $45 an hour thats a steal. Think about it, when was the last time you got something done for $45.
