#82730 09/09/2007 5:53 PM | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 610 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 610 | about a month ago i bought a 52 3/4 ton 5 window w/ a 54 235 freshly rebuilt already sitting in it. i got it from my boss and along with it came a 216 that came out of his 53 truck. he told me the motor ran great, no knocks, not sure about the miles but i will find out.
to get to the purpose of this post, i have the engine sitting in my garage, all cleaned up but is it worth keeping and trying to find a new home for. is there much of a want for these engines anymore, knowing that most go for the 235 because of full pressure oiling. | | |

Just be sure not to let it deteriorate in storage. Here's a sneaky trick- - - -drain as much oil as possible from the crankcase, and fabricate some sort of cradle so it can be stored upside down. The residual oil will pool around the pistons, rings, valves, etc., and prevent them from rusting and/or sticking the rings and valve guides. Removing the intake/exhaust assembly and bolting a piece of wood over the ports will help, too.

Running or not they can't give them away. I saw one sell for $500 but it had been fully rebuilt & not started yet. With a rebuild costing $2500 or more that's not a good way to make money. I've got a 40 216 that I've been trying to give away. It came with my 38 as a spare. If I'd known how little demand there is I'd have told him to keep it.

They came out of a sedan I believe. You can have the whole schmear for a song if ya think you can use them. PM or e-mail me iffen you want-em.
