The guys at NPD told me I couldn't use their sending unit for the Chevy gauge. They claimed I would have to buy a sending unit to match the fuel gauge.
Is there any truth to this?
If so, what sending unit should I look for? Your '38 is most likely a 0 ohm to 30 ohm gage.
I have not tried to match gage to sender, so I can't help you there.

I didn't know there would be an ohm issue to deal with. What i'm getting from all this is that it won't hurt anything to go ahead and try it. Len
