This may sound really stupid, but how in the heck does the windshield wiper arm connect to the post? I ordered a new one and rec'd it a new blade in the mail today. I am at work and away from the truck but all I see is a spring where it would appear to connect. I am sure I am going off the deep end even asking this but any tips would be great appreciated. Now, where are my meds? ohwell

I probably should have also mentioned, I have the stock vacuum assembly in place. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I'm not familiar with the '46 but that doesn't look like any Chevy arm I've seen. Are you sure you got the right part? Do you have your old arms to compare it to?

Thanks for the quick response Tiny. Well, I ordered it from Jim Carter (part WW122)and I also found this thread on the HAMB making me think others have had this same issue. This thread is also where I 'borrowed' my picture from as his wiper arm is identical to mine.

Todd:

I believe that your photo is the stock wiper arm replacement. If you have the stock (original) wiper drive it has a ¼” diameter post that sticks through the cab above the windshield. This post has a 1/8” hole running crossways through it. The hooked end of the wiper arm passes through that hole and the spring is slightly compressed holding the arm in place.

BUT if you have a modified wiper drive you will see a ½” diameter serrated drum sticking out above the windshield. This is an adapter to allow the use of the much better later design arms.

The drum is slipped over the original ¼” post with a 1/8” pin holding it in place. If this is what you have you can use the newer stile arms

yes, that's the right arm, although I don't recall the details now from my 46 [I changed to electric] - the wiper shaft hole needs to be in the right position [straight side to side?], you need to insert the rod while the arm is in an odd position [straight up?] and then lay it down on the glass as the arm cover goes over the shaft - the HAMBer has the wrong idea, the rod doesn't have to go in the hole past the bend, it just 'hooks' in - if you picture it without that cover, with the hole in the shaft straight side to side, the hooked end of the rod just slips in the hole, the spring pushes tight against the shaft, the cover goes down over the shaft end to keep the hook from exiting the hole .... theoretically grin
