Almost finished re-wiring my truck and was wondering about the license plate light pictured below. The lens is missing and when I went to look for one among the typical vendors, I didn't find anything at all similar, which makes me think this is probably an after market item. Does it look familiar to anyone?

an odd aftermarket item or an interior light from something - the license light in 56 was part of the single tail light - if you want to use it you might find something at Taillight King

here's another thought - license lights are legally supposed to shine on the plate only, not to the rear of the vehicle - the way that light is mounted would seem to have had a red lense as a tail or aux brake light

It looks like a Betts Ind. light.

Clear lens would be 920048 or 920057 for a tall reflectorized style

So is it actually a license plate light? Where are the part numbers you mentioned from?

No, it is not a license plate light. If you put a clear lens on that and use it for a tag light you are asking to be pulled over.

looks like a running "marker" light base that goes on a trailer, just my opinion.

It is basically a running /marker light. I got the part numbers from the Betts catalog (bettsind.com). We used them for trailer lights.

Thanks. I've since replaced it with a real license plate light.
