In 1959 (or possibly late 1958), LIFE Magazine photographer Fritz Goro visited the Tarrytown, NY Chevrolet assembly plant. He took some amazing color photos of Chevrolet cars and trucks being built. From the early stages of body sheet metal stampings being welded together, to final vehicle inspection the photos tell a story. To enthusiasts of Chevrolet history, this collection of photos is priceless. These rare assembly line pictures show all of the passenger car models being built, which includes Impala, Bel Air, Biscayne, and the station wagons… Nomad, Kingswood, Parkwood and Brookwood. You can even see a Sedan Delivery and a few pickups. Enjoy… http://www.xframechevy.com/1959/tarrytown-ny-assembly-plant-1959-chevrolet/ | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 62 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 62 | WOW, Some great pic's and they bring back lots of memories. I worked in the Oshawa Ontario Canada plant for 37 years and was involved in the building (and some design) of those welding guns used in the body area of the plant. There are too many sparks coming of those welders but it looks fantastic in photos. I found it interesting that the "ram horns" were painted too. As for the safety equipment, maybe they took off the masks for the photo op. Perhaps Stan Norrish could provide some insight.
