I bought one of the aftermarket cardboard units, but I'm thinking of applying an old antique-looking map to it before installation. There was a post here wherein someone applied a collage of avocado box labels to their headliner - pretty cool.
Anyone care to post more pics of their "custom" headliner finishes?

Has anyone done any other type of application? Rod run stickers? posters? Just looking for ideas other than painted cardboard.
Craig

Did you glue the (vinyl?) to a cardboard headliner from a vendor, or did you start from scratch? My '50 has a middle bow. . .how did you get rid of that?

The headliner attaches to the bow by loops sewed into the seam. | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 158 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 158 | 327 views later, it looks like folks are interested in headliners. . . If you don't have pictures, how about sounding off with ideas you have for your headliners? Old newsprint ads? Burlap? Turkey feathers? Keep the ideas coming! Craig

The wood in the headliner will be matched with cedar shingle sunvisors and cedar door panel trim.
Cedar is wonderful.

The material I settled on was used political signs. You know, the ones made of corregated plastic? I found a really large one and after measuring where the missing panels used to be, I marked it out on the plastic with a felt tip pen and then cut them out with some heavy duty scissors. Then I sprayed 3M adhesive on them and covered them with vinyl that I had bought at a Hancock fabric store. They turned out great. I have plans to do the exact same thing for my headliner.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I like the wood idea because there are a lot of us that split our time and talents between woodwork and metalwork!
Spotbiltxo - FINALLY a something good comes out of politics! Did you add any designs to the vinyl?
How about using old movie posters or car dealership advertisements? Travel brochures? Pictures from the trips taken in the truck?

No sir, I did not put any designs in the vinyl. I'm not that talented. The vinyl did have a subtle pebble pattern in it, so that looks nice as is.
Thanks.

great job on your headliner. I have a question though you might be able to answer. I picked up a headliner froom Brothers truck parts. The front of the headliner was wider and went about 3 inches further back then my center headliner bow would go. And the back piece was about 3 inches to short. Is there a differnce between a 5 window cab headliner and a 3 window cab headliner? Also what kind of insulation did you use between your headliner and top of your cab if any? thanks | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 422 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 422 | No difference in 5 window and 3 window headliner. I used aircraft insulation in mine. A upholsterer friend of mine suggested and got it for me. | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 303 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2010 Posts: 303 | thanks for the info and the reply | | |
