Looking to restore my 58 Apache back to original generator setup. Does anyone know which generator was used? Also where can I buy a replacement generator? What voltage regulator do I use? My truck is an original v8 283
Thanks

They were definitely 12 volts by '58 but I don't know any specific model number for the generator and voltage regulator. Does your driver's side exhaust manifold have the bosses for the generator mounting bolts? One of mine is broken off, but my truck had an alternator put in before I bought it.

My truck does have the mount on the exhaust,it too was converted to alt. I want to change it back to generator. My problem is most catalogs show short and long gens. I just want to buy the right one.

you want a short style, but either will fit - your FLAPS, like NAPA, should be able to source the correct 12V regulator - look around locally if you have any auto electric shops

The Delco-Remy part number of the standard truck generator in 1958 was 1102096, used with a 30 amp voltage generator.

Thanks, where can I get the pulley? Seems like all the catalogs sells them without the pulley

There were basically 3 generators used. All of them different and all of them the long case Delcos and none of them were short case units. Short and long took different mtg. brackets.

1102096 was the standard generator on 6 and 8 cyl. with no options. This generator took a Chevy pulley, NOT Delco, and the pulley was 3/8 belt, 3 3/8 across the pulley face and the fan was 5 3/8 across. This was a standard pulley and they are not hard to find. 30 amp generator

1102114 was for optional factory A/C and NO power steering. Wont go into details on it but it was a whole different creature, different end plates, pulley etc. 35 amp generator

1102115 was for factory power steering, with or without A/C. this is one of the generators with the P/S pump mounted on the rear of the generator. They were not all alike. There were several variations of power steering generators used from 55-59 and 1102115 was different from all of the rest and it was the only P/S generator used in 58-59. 35 amp generator.

All of the above took the 1119001 voltage regulator which was a typical 3 terminal A circuit Delco rated from 30-35 amps. You have to know what your getting when your doing what your doing...you dont want a 35 amp generator and a 20 amp regulator...you wont get anymore than 20 amps out of the generator.

Hope all this helps.
I will PM you my info as I have all of the above mentioned parts.
Ken
