One goes for the brakes, two wires for turn signals-one for each side. And one for the lights. All is well till I turn on the lights which kills the turn signal. If I change the wires then the turn signal kills the brake lights. What am I missing. I put the turn signal wire to the tale light and not the brake light because I won't be out that much at night but know I must be doing something wrong. Thanks for any input.

By you saying you have 4 wires going to the back I'm assuming that you have a 4 wire switch. You can not wire those signal wires into your existing system. Is it a 4-wire directional switch? If so, one wire will power the blinkers on the left side (front and rear), another will power the blinkers on the right. The remaining two wires will go to the flasher.
