It's not a legal requirement here either. You may have noticed my 3rd brake light wasn't wired either. Although as you can see in the video,the LED lights are pretty bright!
The bed will be done as Chevy intended,although probably with oak rather than pine,as soon as I've saved some more cash! I'll have the timber sourced locally and machined for bed strips etc.

Read on: casey, as mentioned above, I drilled a 1/4" hole in the center of the lid and poured out small amounts each time, wiped it clean and put a new piece of duct tape over it each time. Its been hot as a firecracker here and I"ve used some out the can every few days and its still good. I had the hookey puck thing happen to me to.....then another bolter, I forgot his name,mentioned drilling a hole in the lid and it works for me. Anwyone else tried this?.... am I just lucky this go round? The secret to keeping POR15 fresh is to get the can resealed. I found that using a sheet of kitchen food wrap, the clinging kind seemd to work pretty good if used under the lid. It sealed and allowed me to get the lid off w/o tearing it up. But maybe the small hole idea is even better. The subject of "storage of POR 15" has been well covered above. I just thought I'd add my own funny story to the list. I recently stored some POR15 in a 16oz Lipton Tea plastic bottle. I filled it to about 1" from the top and closed it up tight. I have recommended this to others because I saw it somewhere and it sounded like a great idea. Simple, right? Just pour out what you want, then squeeze the botttle a bit to get rid of the extra air and reseal. BAD IDEA!!! It may have worked for others, but not for me. Here's what happened to me tonight. 1. I had to cut the lid off with a utility knife. 2. The POR15 came bubbling out like a volcanic eruption. 3. I now have a few freckles that were not there this morning, and they are semi-glass black. 4. I have a black line on my nose that will be there for weeks and make for interesting conversation. 5. The POR15 was lumpy, but did spread out OK and will probably cure just fine. 6. The sweatshirt my wife wanted me to throw away has POR15 all over the sleeve. It's a shame, that sweatshirt has been with me for over 15 years. 7. I painted stuff with POR15 that I had no intention of painting, but it was either that or waste the stuff that spilled. Waste POR15? Shoot no! That stuff is expensive! 8. I can still laugh about it!

I've been looking for wheels. Back when I needed wheels for mockup I bought what I thought would fit my center cap, Camaro rally wheels. However the caps would not fit the wheels.

Success!!! Big plans for today... Today was designated Hood day. I had planned on getting the hood back on after 6 years. That is all I lack besides exhaust, carpet and headliner. Then I realized the air conditioner evaporator was too close to the kick panel to loosen and tighten the hinge bolts. Lesson learned: put your hood on before installing your evaporator. After loosing the evaporator and getting the bolts loose and ready to set the hood I discovered I had no shoulder bolts for the hinges. I had ordered a full set of stainless bolts for the AD truck which included these. After digging around I found the original bolts which, though not stainless are in perfect shape. Tomorrow I'll use these and hopefully get that hood back on. "The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men..."

So today I went out and checked to make sure they were right. Most were fine but the 2 rad hoses were wrong and i'm looking into the fuel pump. The pump they sent is half the size of the one on there but I think it is because the old has the vacuum on it to work the wiper motor.

I started 3 weeks ago and removed my 3spd trans and sent it to a long time trans shop in Vancouver(Berts Transmission) to have them stop it from jumping out of third.(Note: I had all ready installed new synchro rings and that had not worked.)They found 4 problems, 3 from PO and the main one was the maindrive shaft( input shaft) being worn out. They replaced it with a rebuilt one.( 1 week turnaround) Next was the poor threads on the diff for the cover. I had to install 4 Heli-coils. I also changed the engine oil and filter, greased all the frame grease points.Next I want to install my Fulton visor.

Got me a water bottle and some fuel line.. Filled the carb full and she fired right up..Im excited. Not too bad for my first 216 rebuild.. Just wish i had the cab on it so i could go for a spin. (took it out to straighten a frame horn and i had it off maybe a 1/16th on ten feet from front to back). got the new box plate cut and tacked in. also bead blasted a bunch of small parts now that i have air again. tomorrow weld the plate solid and cut in the reliefs for the rack and pinion. taken it easy this week kind of tired. lol MO

He has a lift and we have been working on the running-board arms. I would imagine very few of these old trucks have escaped a side bump or "beer bruise" to the running boards. I never considered this until now that my boards are on and the splash panel doesn't line up equal to the other side and generally nothing fits well. I have shimmed three and put a pry pipe on one to drop it about an inch. My advice to anyone with their cab off would be to check the level on these arms to make sure they are level and true.

| | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 229 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 229 | welded the boxing plate solid. also started the measuring and marking process for the mustang ii crossmember. cleaned up the crossmember and started to cut for the rack and pinion reliefs in the frame. i was just starting to test fit the first relief(half of a metal tube) when the wife came and shut me down for supper. didn't work to hard this weekend but i am moving on anyway. see you all next weekend. mo
