Hi folks. If this is a repeat of a post in the past, I apologize in advance, but I don't much care to do an extensive search.

I have a 1952 3/4 ton GMC pickup, and I have a little bit of a wheel bearing issue on the front wheels. I just checked the prices on front wheel bearings at Napa, and I'm glad I was sitting down.

Napa auto parts wants $114 apiece for outer wheel bearings and $109 apiece for inner wheel bearings. That's $446, just for wheel bearings! Highway robbery?

Does anybody have a better source for wheel bearings? I thought it was just a bunch of ball bearings that you manually change, then reassemble and grease. I don't even think a modern car would cost that much for wheel bearings.

Any help that could be provided would be appreciated. I did check some of the links on this site that seemed applicable and they either didn't go back to 1952, or else they didn't carry wheel bearings.

fyi, Autozone lists Timkens for $65=outer and $98=inner. They say they'll ship to you as well. FWIW.

What part numbers are those prices for??

There are now aftermarket tapered roller bearings available through some of the usual restoration parts suppliers (and nowhere else that I can find) for 1 ton's and should fit 3/4 just the same

Here's what I found. In Classic Industries, they are part numbers WB67 and WB52 for front outer and inner wheel bearings, respectively, and cost $14.99 each. But then again, they show another front inner wheel bearing for $49.99. So I find that confusing. Maybe I'll check LMC Truck too.


Are 3/4 ton wheel bearings different from 1/2 ton wheel bearings?

Okay, LMC Truck does show a tapered roller front wheel bearing conversion kit, for $169. It's on page 57 of their catalogue. But the application is for a 1/2 ton truck.
So again, this brings up the question of if the 1/2 ton takes a different size bearing than the 3/4 ton.

I guess they are different sizes. The LMC part numbers for the bearings are 34-0501 for outer ($69.95) and 34-0506 for inner front wheel bearings ($99.95), on page 85 of their catalogue.

Looks like that's what they're gonna cost at best...

You're asking about 3/4 ton right??
Not the same as 1/2 ton......

Go to www.classicparts.com. they have roller and standard ball wheel bearings 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.

That inner bearing is the killer. New Departure is the brand and the number is#909726 and the bearing seal is National #5756. Let me know if you found another source for the ballbearings?
