I have been working out the kinks after the start up of the recent full rebuild.
Idle was rough and cyl 1 and 2 plug wire disconnect didn't effect condition. Plugs were white. I had to pull the manifold and to be honest, used the wrong gasket in the engine set, the exhaust port was ok but the intake od followed the head but the id was large and effected a leakage.
This corrected, I took the test run and my amp gauge felt warm and had started to peg fifty amps.
I had the ground and the field wires switched on the generator which didn't appreciate me, it was quite hot.
Had set the valves hot and with enging idling as the book suggested. In checking my result static, I was more accurate with engine off.
Compression was even with excepion of the hole with the tight intake valve.
I would like to know if the center nuts of the front engine mount should have large washers anyoue willing to crawl under their beast to look?
Thanks.
I was curious about this being all carb related, but as they say, get the rest corrected and then think about the carb.
I need to get the manifold with the exhaust pipe flange refined, which is going to need a die grinding and then I can worry more about the hood ornament. I intend to use carbkings tips about ethanol fuel and timing. The plugs were the proper tan after the intake debacle.
A tip I would share, I loosened the connection between the intake and exhaust manifolds then I did the torque sequencing of the respective manifolds to the head. After, I retightened the junctional hardware then hung the exhaust pipe.
The washers on the manifold are a little wimpy, Mercedes diesels have the perfect washer which they used in the eighties on their diesels. Very nice improvement.
Next step is to replace the wiper servo as it is hissing. Hope it wasn't boring, I took the long road and agree with the comment that ignorance can be fixed but stupidity is forever.
