| | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,599 Moderator | | Moderator Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,599 | Have not had the GMC 9500 with the on the road since last fall, just pulling it out of the shop and putting the Ladder/Flag up on weekends.
It run good Friday pulling it out of the shop, then this afternoon, our son is showing a lot of interest in the truck (25 years old) and I encourage him to put the ladder down and park it back in the shop. Ladder goes down with out a hitch, then when he jumped in the cab, the engine starts to fall on it's face, lack of fuel.
We decide that it is in the yard and will be OK for the night.
Fast forward and I cannot leave it alone .
It is getting fuel to the filter, but the mechanical fuel pump that is on front top center of the moter is dripping and not pumping.
My question is, Can we stil get this top mounted fuel pump yet?
When I get one, our son will be installing it and I look foreward to the day.

I've got a 9500 cabover with a 637 in it, I've never had that issue but have had to rebuilt the carb. along with a new float. This summer I couldn't keep it running and the only way was to fill up the fuel filter and it would go till the fuel ran out(about 3 minutes), finally figured out that the pump would not draw from 1/2 a tank of fuel or less. So maybe I need a new fuel pump? did you have this issue before it started to leak? Is the pump on top not a self sealed unit (can't be opened)?

Here are the two Napa numbers I was able to find NFP M3987 $51.49, and NFP M3955 $45.49, I crossed these numbers to Napa numbers from AC numbers 4777, and 4754 using the interchange feature on Napas website, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,599 Moderator | | Moderator Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,599 | How I love this site!
Ask a question on a rare engine and get a response less than an hour latter with part numbers.
I'll yank the pump tomorrow night and dazzle the Napa boys Tuesday with the part numbers.
It will be running like a top by the end of the week.
