Now that I have my rebuilt Carter YF 2100S installed and functioning so well, I thought I might try hooking up the throttle cable.
It's not obvious to me how the wire is supposed to hook to anything. Would some kind soul be able to give me some guidance here, and maybe even a photograph?
Thanks,

I could not make it out in the video how the stop was applied. It also looks like you have a really different setup for the throttle rod going to the carb. Mine is maybe a hacked up mess. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

BTW your carburetor is WAY too clean.

Kurt | | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 835 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 835 | OK, I have a few pictures of the throttle setup on my engine. When I installed the engine in 1973 at the ripe old age of 19, I had to "engineer" something that would work. From what I remember, there was something broken about the original setup with the 216, and the '53 powerglide engine was also different. Anyway, here is a picture of the fitting at the carb. I don't remember if this is the way the cars were set up or was something I found. Not a simple bent rod, anyway. Fitting at carburetor. Here is a picture of the carburetor and the throttle cable. The cable is clearly too short, broken off. I guess this is why it was not hooked up. Is it possible to get a new cable and use the original knob? The post on the fitting is really short also, and the hole is small. Not sure it will work. Throttle cable and fitting. I think the throttle pivit attached to the engine is from the powerglide motor. It seems that there was something wrong with the accelerator rod from the pedal, and I had to braze a piece of all-thread and make up some plumbing parts to get this to work. It was a long time ago. Throttle pivit. Here is a picture showing the accelerator pedal rod. acellerator pedal rod. Anyway, I would appreciate any comment on what these parts should look like, and any advice about what i might do to get the throttle at the dash to work. PS, the truck drives great with this setup, as hacked up as it may be. In the second picture, just drill vertical where the bent up remnants of the cotter-pin are horizontal right now. When the gas pedal is pushed, the lever on the carb just slides up the cable.
Does this help? I don't have a picture of mine, but I can take one if somebody else doesn't. I'll bet Denny has a pic already though. My throttle cable is broken off right now too!
Also, where the electrical tape is on your column, one of the steel brake adjuster plugs will fit in there, and look cool. I only mention this, as in scraping the junk off my column, I discovered the one on my truck! I only mention this, if you have one laying around. I seem to recall the vendors want $8 or something like that for one. Your return spring is set up differently. ...pic... ...pic... ...pic... Just as suggested above, you can simply re-drill your rod for a new cable and stop. Personally I like the old repair. If you do decide to change if over try posting in the swap meet section for Accelerator rod and linkage. Thanks for the pics. The return spring is probably something I rigged up too.
I do like the old repair, actually. It does work. Do you know if a new wire can be fitted to the old knob?

Thanks for your ideas. I had completely forgoton about the electrical tape, which I think I put on there about 1976 when I replaced the 3 speed with the 4 speed.
You know, that vinyl electrical tape is pretty good stuff. Cheaper than an $8 plug!

As far as crimping a new wire, Im not sure, Maybe some one else can advise. He took a short piece of aluminum tubing, drilled two holes in it. One hole to line up with the cotter pin location of your pic two. The cotter pin holds the piece of tube in place. The second hole is what the throttle cable goes through. It's worked really well for him and it's a lot easier to drill a small hole through aluminum tubing than a steel rod.

The existing hole in the fitting is so close to the base that I don't think I can pull off that trick with the aluminum tube, but I will check. Good idea.
I think I may try to fabricate a new fitting of some kind. Will post a pic if I do.

I just bought new cables, and am trying to figure out how to install the throttle cable. The reminants of the choke cable was still attached. Any help is appreciated. I just got the bracket, and will give it a go.
