For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 12 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 12 | I am progressing on my 66 C10 and have decided that the three speed just is not going to cut it, but I would like to keep the original 250 thats under the hood. So far from skimming the boards, I have noticed that most people go with a mid 80's 4-speed or T-5? from a S-10. I am open to any suggestions that you folks may have. I am basically looking for something that is going to bolt on without much fabrication, because I no very little as far as modifying drive shafts, etc.
thanks in advance jf | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 39 Member | | Member Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 39 | Hey JF, well I gots a suggestion slash experience.I have a 65 with a 292 and it also had the old gimpy 3 on tree,I switched to a Saginaw SM-420(at least thats what they told me).But its a saginaw out of a '67 chevy.Well It running great lots of power on take off, only you cant use first but still its great except for top speed 55.If you go this route youll need to change the rear end to 3.73 I havent done it yet because of lack of time.Im a teen so I like to go fast not stupid fast but close. This tranny bolts on very easy with the same bell housing and everything. So this is just a suggestion. :p

Most of the 4 speeds shouldn't be a problem. I have a M-21 but the first gear isn't low enough to work well on my truck. You'd really want something with overdrive too if you could get it. I've heard good things about the Super T-10s. I'm afraid I can't offer you much more than that. I hope this helps.
BIGGY--What rear gears does your '65 have? My truck has 3.73s and I've run my 250 up to around 75mph. Just curious.
1968 Chevy C-10, 250 and 3 speed on floor, Hedman headers, Offy intake, Edelbrock 600cfm 4 barrel, HEI 1966 Chevy C-10, motor and tranny went into the '68. Waiting to be restored.

Easier install than the T5, it bolted right up. I'm really pleased with it (8000 miles now since 12/02), cruising 80mph no problem and getting 20MPG on the highway (16mpg in-town). Only trick is finding one. http://www.chuckthetruck.homestead.com/page12.html | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 29 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 29 | What about a two speed powerglide or a 700R4, would either bolt up to a 230? I have a four speed on the floor but way too many hills and stop signs to make it enjoyable...anyone up for a trade?
Use a big enough catapult and even pigs can fly...remember nothing is impossible, impractical yes, but never impossible.

Yes, the powerglide will bolt to a 230, but with a lot of hills and stop signs I would prefer the three speed TH350.
