I was wondering if the tranny would be a 700r4, I'm told that the 96 and newer 5.7 would be a better choice because of the vortec heads. How well did the 89 5.7 perform. I plan on accepting the offer regardless as I'm sure that there will be many usable parts. I can't wait until someone offers me a newer truck for parts, lol. John

I have an 88 and it is no slouch. 93 up had a 4L60E which is basically the same trans with more computer controls. Of course the later engines had higher HP but for the price who could turn it down. I thought even if I were to buy a crate motor this would at least supply me with all the neccessary brackets and accessaries. I'd like to get around the 300 hp range.I'm not sure what it would cost to have this motor rebuilt as apposed to buying a crate motor.
