It looks like it was filled with a hard seam sealer like material. Thanks for the picture. It is below that weld seam. As the cab corner bends around the rocker only goes down so far and the corner was bent up to hit it leaving an open tringle down there that had some hardened goop filled in there.

I really appreciate your help. You explain things really well and have the pics to help me to understand as well. Your left side looks like it lines up really well as the cab corner wraps around the rocker, but on your right side it seems to bend up the corner to meet the bottom of the rocker for the 3 spot welds. This left a triangle void that someone stuck filler into(Mine might have been slightly worse than yours as far as how much it needed to be bent up). The seams didn't always line up perfectly either and they just compromised.

The left side had the big triangle you speak of.. Pretty normal to find something on these trucks that just doesnt line up right.. Mine had no filler in it..
