Does anybody, know what procedure is required to install 5 clearance lights on a 1966 i/2 ton cab? One on each side & 3 in the center.

the "procedure" would be to drill some holes in the roof in the correct location and wire some lights to the light switch .... but clearance lights are not required by law or appropriate on a 1/2T, they're "clearance and identification lights" warning of a wide vehicle

The Wires will also need to be snaked down the Drivers Side A-Pillar. Not a real easy job, but there is enough room to accomplish it.

I know they are not required, but I am going for the Big Bolt look. I figured it was going to be time intense, but I think they would look neat & be different. The truck theme, is going to be some what of a copy of my Grandpa's old semi trucks. Most of his trucks were white top & black bottoms. I have a stencil from the guy, that used to letter his name on the trucks. So, I will be putting his name on the doors. I think it will be neat, when it is done, that's all that matters anyway.

I used to have a half ton 61 Chevy that had clearance lights They were added on afterwards by one of the previous owners. Sounds like a pretty neat idea you have for your truck

It is quite common to find cab lights on half ton four wheel drives even short bed trucks , I have two. If you make an attempt please take the time and put them where they belong.Just my opinion

I would like to know some dimensions, on where they need to go. I have acess to a 1970 C60, that has them. I just don't know how much bigger the cab is, compared to my C10.

the cabs are all the same, and light positions are all the same .... the 2 clearance lights go as far to each side as possible at the highest point - the 3 identification lights are centered and 6" apart .... see the link I gave above

I put them on my 70. I like the look. I put them on a 63 I used to have & I thought they were cool. The guy I sold it to asked me where he could have them removed.

Where did you get the lights, that are on the white stepside? They appear to have some chrome around them, this type is what I am looking for. Thanks.

I useto get them from J.C. Whitney but I notice LMC has the same thing about the same price. I will probably put some on my 56 before to long.

The originals are Yankee 77's. I believe they are no longer available new. There are some used ones out there as well as reproductions. The '66 Roof you have will be a little different than the '70 C-60 that you have mentioned.

It would be nice if there was a Factory Template out there, but I have never heard of one and there was none available when I installed mine on my '64 C-30. I went to the junkyard to measure some larger parts trucks there, but they must have been Dealer installed lights and I realized that they were not exactly correct. I just kept repositioning them till I felt I had them factory correct, then bolted them down.

There's a book, I believe it is called "Accessories Installation Reference Manual" or "Dealer Installed Accessories Manual" or the like, that was published by GM for each year, that gives step by step instructions for correct installation of cab clearance lights as well as most any other option.

Appreciate the info. When I was looking for that info a long time ago, I called a parts friend of mine at the Chevy dealer and he told me there was no such thing. It was more of a car dealership and maybe he just didn't know?? I'll have to check into finding one.

Found the Installation sheet for the cablights will try to scan so you can enjoy, However it is a 5 page scan and not my strong suit...curt

That would be great, if you can post the installation sheet. I also found some lights made by Peterson, on Ebay, that appear to be like the same style, as the Yankee 77 lights. They also have a website, that shows the lights. I just googled Peterson lights, and they have a section for cab / marker lights. I have not contacted them yet, to see if the lights come with any reference, as to how they are positioned on the cab.

Oh buy the way, the Part # for the original GM lights is, #985977. For GMC, it is Part # 2234525. Supposedly these numbers were used from 1964 - 1981.
