Which direction does the rounded edge of the front motor mount go, rounded edge towards the front or back. This is for a 1951 straight six, it had a 216, I am putting back a 261. | | |

Here is a picture of a common front motor mount for your truck .....1933- 1955: Is yours mushy and distorted? The thread contains the part nos and photos of the entire assembly. The truck originally (at least when I got it) had a '52 216 installed but now has 235. If you are talking about the Plate I installed mine with the curved side facing forward. Since my truck didn't have the retainer-plate-shield installed when I got it I can't really confirm that this is the correct orientation. Hmm... Anyway, it would seem to me that if oil leaked from the seal it would seep forward while the truck was idle, and then when underway the air currents would push it up the front of the retainer. If the curved part of the plate is on the front my thinking is that it create a downdraft that would deflect any oil that was headed in that direction.  Don
