Pondering driveline options for my '46 shortbed halfton pickup. I'm putting a 235 in it for sure. There are adapter plates to put a T5 behind the stock '46 bellhousing, and I like the idea of an overdrive. I have a few concerns, though.

Shifter location of the T5 is pretty far back. I had an offset shifter on a T5 in a corvette once and didn't care for the shifter feel of it at all. If anyone has put a T5 into a pre-'47 truck how was the shifter location?

If I change to an open rear, to match the T5, I will likely end up with 5-lug wheels. Are there any decent options for 5-lug wheels that I can run the stock '46 dog-dish hubcaps on? Preferably something an inch or two wider that the stock rims that are on it right now.

I've tried every combination of search I could think of, but T5 is too short to search for so I haven't located any applicable posts for this yet.

Lots of info on the HAMB about this and you might want to look at the S10 version for a better shifter location. Not the same as yours but I recently swapped out the SM420 in my 55 2nd series for a T5.

Yeah, I have a thread going at the HAMB. I thought I'd get the opinions of people who are more "restoration minded" as well. The T5 I put in my vette was from an S10, although I installed a Camaro tailshaft to get the shifter close to the proper location.

I saw in the tech articles where a member here did the T5 swap. It looked pretty good when it was all said and done. I am definitely leaning that direction, but there are always drawbacks to everything.
