I know, you guys prefer to keep them stock...so I have 2 to play with. Both '48 GMC 1/2 ton long boxes. One that is a completely original 3 window basket case pulled out of a farmers field (long term restore-to-original planned for my wife to drive), and the other is a completely amateur modification of a 5-window, with an I6 from a mid-60's Camero that no longer runs. The hood has been changed to poorly duplicate a Chevy by adding a bunch of sheet metal and bondo. I already have an origianl replacement GMC grill assembly, and I have a SBC 305 sitting on the shop floor with no home, so I figure, why not? If it's not too bad of an install, at least I'll be able to drive it again. I understand there will be some issues with the steering box, but I have seen in other posts that an engine side stock exhaust manifold from a '75 C10 with the 5.7L will give the clearance required for the steering box. True or not? The other question, is will the 305 bolt right up to the existing tranny? I have not been able to find the answer to that one - I did search. Thanks for the help!

FYI, in case anyone else was wondering. I got answers from another forum to my SBC Chevy swap. The engine will not bolt up to the tranny, I need to swap the bell housing to a newer version. The flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate will also need to be changed to match that of a SBC. Exhaust manifolds from a '94 Caprice I have also been told will fit up nicely in the truck.
