I've taken off the front, center, and back hedliner trim metal strips and found two center metal mounting strips underneath. It looks cobbled-up and not original. I've taken a photo. What do you think? http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc428/davpattn/42headlinershot.jpg

It's original! Your center trim piece mounts to this and divides the headliner.

Really. I'm surprised that the factory design would have TWO strips behind the headliner so close together. Thanks for the info.

The two strips actally screw together and when assembled correctly look like a single unit.
