I've gotten as far as removing all the screws in the panel and the arm rest, but I can't find the pin or screw on the shafts of the handles. I have an idea as to what it might be, but I can't find a way to pull them out. It doesn't help that there's a layer of hard-to-clean-off dirt over the shafts either. | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | behind the handle there's a C-clip in the shank holding it to slots in the shaft, you need a handle clip removal tool, usually at most FLAPS 'help' rack Bill | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Its tricky Jordan but I have pushed in on the panel and used a screwdriver to get them off but its NOT the preferred way. If money is tight do you know someone at a local shop that the guy may have one in his tool box your can borrow?? Ask around. | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 | I'll ask around and see, I can bet my "go-to" guy has one or can help me get it off, I know he's taken handles off of a few of his old trucks to fix them. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Jordan, are you driving this truck? If so, drive it to the darn Chevy Dealer Body Shop and ask one of them if they would do you a favor by popping the clips out of your door handle! I feel they would accomodate you just to show they could | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 | Well, yes the truck is drivable. I wasn't aware that dealers even had tools anymore. I'll keep that in mind. | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 | On a recent trip with a buddy to the parts store for his F*$d, I was looking in the "help" section of the store and just happened to see the tool, and it was $5. So, I decided to buy that along with a speedometer cable for the '54. Came home, got the handles off, sprayed lots of penetrating oil on everything and scraped out the slides with a pocket knife. It seems that over the 20+ years the window hadn't been used the stuff that lines the slides, or some sort of sealant, had collected and was keeping the window from rolling down. The gears had also rusted significantly on their pivot points. But I got 'er done and it rolls down really easily. Thanks for the help. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | thats great Jordan. thanks for keeping us posted.
