Gang -- Last weekend, we discussed an early january jaunt to Leon's in Culpepper.

Mike B tells us it's just a few miles South of Culpepper on Rt 29.

Needs to be a weekday...the yard is open from 8am - 4pm and no one is admitted after 10am. All of your tools, lunch and water need to be carried in (back pack). It's to long of a walk back to the car if you need something to take a part off. The prices are not cheap, but there are lots of parts still there.

More discussion needed on when and who's going.

Note to non-ODSS members/non-attendees -- please don't send us wishlists. You gotta be present to play!

I'm ready whenever...you guys that work for a living can pick what day works for your schedule.

For me this can be a "day trip" as it's only about a 2 hour drive each way or we could do a night over and walk two days in a row...

Mike B :)

I'm up for it too. Might just end up being a day trip deal as I don't think we have anyone near there where can make base camp. Although, it will be a long day to cover it all.

I still would like to hit the "Honey Holes" in beautiful Fulks Run Va. at some point.

I'm interested except for having to use a day's vacation and the "prices are not cheap" part.
Sounds like it's worth a trip though just to see what there is to see.

Andy, we as a group have decided that we would not do "wish lists". Stovebolt has a Parts Wanted and Parts for Sale for you to peruse your needs.

I have not visited Leon's Auto Parts in over 15 years. It was heavily picked-over at that time, compared to my many visits between 1969-1975. I got my 261 engine there in 1972 (it is now in my Suburban).

The Walking Man's Friend - Here 'tis"

Have a good visit. If Leon's son is there, tell him "hi" from me (I met him when he was maybe 5 years old).

I've been to Leon's several times (although not recently) and it's definately a good experience. I remember the prices being "reasonable", but no bargain.

At this point, I'd be up for it.

OK, lets do this...I'm going to Leon's on the 6th weather permitting (it's no fun in the rain or snow).

Anyone else going?

I don't want to be the spoiler but I can't go on the 6th. I will be on barn duty while Jennifer is out of town. If the date works out for everyone else, don't let me stop you. Wow, I didn't think me, the newly appointed mod would be one to ask for parts pick up! Ok, I know that is against the rules but you could still LOOK for door handles and gauges for my 860, right?

I'll wait to see what the "gang" does. I've walked Leons before and hadn't planned on going back. If the ODSS shows up, I might make an effort to go. There are a lot of vehicles to look at, but the prices are high and they've been picked over pretty hard.

Billy- If I end up going, I'll be proud to look for your parts.

Friday the 20th works for me. I'm out for the 6th. Are we making this decision by vote, loudest voice or SAA Decree?

And for whatever it's worth, Johnnie M is all-weather and amphibious -- I'll go night or day, rain, snow, monsoon, fire & brimstone, swarms of locusts or blizzard just to spend a minute or two in the very fine company of my ODSS brothers.

wink

I'll look into Culpeper restaurants, Culpeper is 15 minutes tops from Leon's. It would be nice to break some bread after a long day of hunting.

Thats why he is the President folks. First issue in going on a Junk Yard Tour is, of course finding a junk yard. The second most important thing for us ODSS members on an excursion like this is FOOD!
Good job Cosmo.

Please forgive (or, just ignore) my interloping, but I wish I could join you.

May I suggest:

http://www.yelp.com/biz/pig-n-steak-madison

9 miles south of Leon's on RTE 29 - about 15 minutes

I'm in Charlottesville today, visiting relatives. Have a good junk-yard visit.

I was affaid that Milliman's silence was a result of tree-planting business, which to this point, I have not been able to help. I am back from NH this weekend and should be able to plant, making the 20th viable.

Ok men, I'm not going to shake my SAA stick since either Hambone or Roache are not close by. Let's be democratic about this and vote. Voting deadline is Saturday morning at 07:30. I will tally the votes and report back.

I vote for the 20th.

Put me down for the 20th but use a light pencil. No, not becaue it is my anniversary, (JAM) said go, and have a blast. Just not sure if I can skip out of work or not yet. I am already taking off the 5th and 6th. Most likely it won't be a problem.

If any of you can't make it on the 20th or want to go twice, I'm going on the 6th (weather permitting) and you're welcome to tag along.

Remember this is the type of JY that you need to "back-pack" your lunch, water and your tools. If I remember correctly it's about 115 acres and there's very little flat ground (would be hard to pull a hand truck or cart).

You can get an idea of it's size via Google Map using this address...

Leon's Auto Parts, 6207 James Monroe Highway, Leon, VA 22725

Happy New Year!
