I need some help/advice on fixing an oil leak that appears to be coming from the mainfold or cylinder head.

The entire left rear of the block is wet with oil - not fuel. It starts just under the intake/exhaust manifolds and runs down the block.

My first thought was to change the head gasket, but I'd like to see if anyone had any ideas or had seen this before. Compression is even across all cylinders and I'm not burning an excessive amount of oil.

Anyone seen this before or have any ideas or guidance? Thanks!

First, check the valve cover gasket.

Done. The head is clean all around (even in the back). The leak seems to be coming from in between the bottom of the head and the block - where the gasket is. This seems strange to me, as I didn't think there was any oil circulating near there.

Maybe it's just a bad head gasket, but it just seems strange to have a leak in that area...

Would there be a fitting connection in that area for the oil filter? Just a guess.

No, no fittings in that area. Just oil leaking down the side of the block.

Thanks for the reply.

This sounds like bad news. You may have a cracked block. Without looking at it, this is a guess. Cecil........
