I bought a 270 to put into my truck. Motor is old military motor reconditioned at Red River TX base. As I begin to get into this I notice the crank pulley has slotted groove like for hand crank on my tractors.

Do I need to replace this if I put in my truck? I am thinking the current pulley will extend to far forward.

My crank pulley looks like this one.

I presume you have a GMC truck for the GMC engine.

I got a new front pulley/harmonic damper for my 302, same as 270, from a 292 Chevy engine, same shaft, keyway dims; 2 groove pulley, 3/8 belt. I have heard of 3 groove pulleys, but didn't need that. Machined a little off the end so it would line up w/ 302 water pump, alternator. I couldn't find another modern harmonic damper.

'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

google harmonic balancer, harmonic dampers, and a whole pile of things show up, there is damper dudes, and damper doctor that come to mind right off hand. They aren't that hard to find. These are brand new or at least freshly revulcanized.

Correct - GMC motor into 1949 or 1950 GMC 1/2 ton. I am swapping out the 228 and will be replacing with the 270.
