For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 | My previous owner must have had a hard time replacing the exhaust manifold. They put a split header manifold then welded pipes to fit. The trouble is they had to modify the carb linkage. I don't like the way the pedal feels and I want to put it back the right way. I found the correct linkage for my motor but I need a new manifold. Does anyone make a new one for my motor? If I need a used one, can I use a 216 manifold? If I'm not mistaken the 235 wont work.
Any help on this would be great.
Thanks, Dan

Split manifolds can be interchanged with a little modification. You should be able to find an old GMC manifold in your part of the country. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 | I guess a 270 will and a 248 will. I was wondering if I can get a new one? Is someone making reproduction manifolds?

Maybe you can rework the linkage to work a little smoother. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 | I guess a 270 will and a 248 will. I was wondering if I can get a new one? Is someone making reproduction manifolds? no ones making new ones or knock offs. you can get one from any of the gmc engines. if you find something larger than a 228 id be looking into the whole motor for a upgrade. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 | Thanks. I actually have what I think is a factory bored 228 to 248 Its stamped on the block that way. So I kinda want to keep my orriginal motor. Although there is a nice 270 for sale on eBay. But you never know when getting used stuff. So I'm thinking I'l bite the bullet and spend tons of money on having my engine and tranny rebuilt .
I did work on the linkage again. I found a used linkage assembly on eBay. I took the rod off and tried to use it and could see why it didn't work. I took the messed up rod and made it look like the un mollested one. Then I moddified THAT one. And kept the nice one nice.
The problem I was having with the linkage is the pedal stroke was real jerky and it bound up a little. It feels like I may have made it smoother.
I was willing to go back to the orriginal manifold to make it right.
What is the advantage of this split header if there is one??

However with less restriction, the engine can consume more gas. Espeacially if you drove with the pedal to the metal. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | Thanks. I actually have what I think is a factory bored 228 to 248 Its stamped on the block that way. tranny rebuilt . If the block is stamped 228xxxxx with 248 stamped separately it is most likely a dealer replacement 248 with the original number stamped on it to match the title. The casting number will provide more info. | | |
