I've seen it on trucks in boneyards, and also on older "restored" trucks. My guess is that it was maybe a replacement bumper that was installed "back in the day" by the dealership or whomever. He stated that he believed that the original GM bumpers all included the GM lettering. A couple had GMU. The one ton bumpers had GM, along with something else i couldnt make out.
I have a Ting-Tang china repro bumper on the back of my suburban.
Also have a orig GM bumper on the rear of my panel.
When both are parked side by side,, you can definitely tell the difference. One was off a 49 Chevy pickup. The other was a rear panel or burb bumper from an unknown year between 47-53.
