It is my understanding that "GM" + other letters are stamped and spaced out on the backside of an original bumper. What does the stamping "MBC" refer to on the backside of a bumper?

MBC. More Better Chrome.

I don't know, but I'm curious, and back at the top here maybe someone who isn't a smart alex will see this and respond.

I have also seen the letters "MBC" stamped on the back of numerous bumpers that were attached to "original" trucks. I've seen it on trucks in boneyards, and also on older "restored" trucks. My guess is that it was maybe a replacement bumper that was installed "back in the day" by the dealership or whomever. I can say that those bumpers with the "MBC" stamping fit alot better than any new reproduction bumper that is on the market today.

MBC could be the vendor that manufactured the bumpers for GM

Can anyone shed any more light on this topic?

Was "MBC" a GM original bumper?

I received a personal correspondence today from Bob Adler. He stated that he believed that the original GM bumpers all included the GM lettering. He did not have any further info. on the MBC lettering that some of us have seen.

I just went down and moved a pile of bumpers around,,,,,Lots of them had GM stamped on them. A couple had GMU. The one ton bumpers had GM, along with something else i couldnt make out.
I have a Ting-Tang china repro bumper on the back of my suburban.
Also have a orig GM bumper on the rear of my panel.
When both are parked side by side,, you can definitely tell the difference. Like having balsa wood in one hand and a 2x4 in the other.

I have recently checked two bumpers and found them both to be MBC. One was off a 49 Chevy pickup. The other was a rear panel or burb bumper from an unknown year between 47-53. I realize opinions are like Adam's apples, but I would venture an opinion that MBC was a vendor of new parts to GM (possibly only at some assembly plants.)

Are we at a dead-end with this question...an unsolved mystery?
