Our 1959 Apache 36 w/ a 261 is in need of power steering!! The wife likes to drive it to car shows ocassionaly and could use all the help she can get!! The front end has been gone through and i'm looking for advice on a "bolt-on" application. I'm not opposed to a few mods but it has to look nice. I've seen the 1/2 Ton bolt-ons, but nothing for a heavier truck like ours. Any suggestions as to a starting point???

Hy tobin1959, as far as I can remember the same setup for the 1/2 tons should work all the way up to the 1 tons, good luck with the install.

The unit that CPP (and possibly others)carries is about as close to a bolt on as you are going to get. It resembles the original style with a control valve and a ram cylinder. The stock drag link is replaced by this unit and the ram bolts to the front axle and the tie rod. As far as I know they can be used on both a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton. The weakness is that it supplements the stock steering box so if your box is not great it won't be either. They are also quite pricy. I had one and did not care for the feel on the road. I have installed The Toyota steering conversion on both series trucks and found it to be a vast improvement. However it is not a "bolt on" and is not cheap. It is great to drive though.
