I found a '50 GMC 1/2-ton that I'm probably going to get in the very near future. One option I'm thinking about is taking a Jaguar and gutting the front and rear suspensions from it, and putting them on the truck! I know it's been done before by someone here. I've got a line on a running '88 Sovereign sedan for dead cheap - less than a grand! I know both the front and rear suspensions off the Jag unbolt from the car as a unit each. This, of course, would yield four-wheel disc brakes, independent rear suspension, and a very highway-friendly gearing with limited-slip differential.

Is there anyone here with first-hand experience with this swap, especially in a '47.2 - 55.1 truck???

I have not done it but have studied it and have some good info/emails from Dyna Ares, a British Bolter here, and others. Some good advice, pics and drawings. Send me a PM with email address and I will forward to you.

WOW! The Jag engine in my potential donor car is toast, but that suspension install looks amazing! Very impressive, indeed.

I'm too far into my build to use a Jag set-up but would seriously consider doing it in another future project.
At least the rear end anyway.
I've always liked the Jag IRS.(it looks great with a little work and it rides/handles really well.)
There's a good selection of diff ratios too.
Plus they're common here in Blighty.

If a truck rides half as good as a Jag,I would be more than happy!

The 1950 GMCs I was considering are quite a bit rougher than I was hoping, upon closer inspection. The 5-window cab has a horribly pitted and rusty ROOF all the way to the bottom of the windows! The doghouse and doors are good (this is the one-ton), and this one has a title. The frame is useless, due to a lifetime of hauling manure and letting it settle on the frame rails. The 1/2-ton has a good door and hood, and a decent 3-window cab. Decent bedsides. Both have 228 engines and four-speeds.

So, with that, I continue to look around for the right project.

Found one a bit ago, pretty decent description of the build.
