After driving for the 1 st time in 28 years I have a stalling out problem at stop signs... I have enough idle speed and does not appear to have lack of fuel to the carb, the fuel filter shows 3/4 full when I checked it... I have new fuel tank, clean fuel pump and fuel filter... It was running at a nice engine temp, although when I got back home and idled for a few minutes it did get a bit warmer and was hard starting...

I am running a 58-60 235 W/Rochester carb that was rebuilt last year and has been running good and a 54 Hydra-Matic transmission...

Thanks in advance for the help...

Bummer! When it stalls, is it done for the day or does it start right back up?

You said you "have enough idle speed" - just FYI, the '59 shop manual shows 425 - 450 rpm with the auto trans in Drive.

Good luck, hope you get this issue solved soon.

waldo53 when it stalls out it does start but not right up like it does when its cold... Have idle set at 450 rpm... Checking other things today to see what might be causing the issue...

Adjusted the points ( Dwell is 36 )... Heat riser was not closing properly, fixed it... Only stalled once today in about 15 miles of driving at a stop sign... Still did not start right back up but better then the other day... The shop manual says to hold the throttle down half way when starting a warm or hot engine, will try this next trip...

When warm, does the starter grunt while trying to crank it?

Roy Rodgers,

Starter turns fine... I fixed that problem long time ago... Good ground cables and engine timing solved that one...

Is the by pass wire from the starter to the coil intact so that while cranking the coil gets full battery voltage? Is the spark a bright blue or orange? Sometimes a coil can get hot and break down.
