I have read that the fiber timing gears can blow apart. This one looks in excellant shape, it may even have been replaced at some time. I am wondering if it should be replaced since it is out. The oil passage has been cleaned so I know the gear will be lubricated. Should it just be replaced for safety reasons or not a worry. From what I can tell, the biggest cause for the gear to go bad is lack of lubrication.

They're a little noisy, but a lot more durable than a fiber gear.

| | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | In my experience fiber gears only fail when they are starved for oil. If the supply slot in the back of the timing plate and nozzle are clean so the oil is not restricted you should be fine.
