For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 | I was looking at my fuel line from the bottom of my tank and noticed that it too had not been properly clamped. In fact the hose clamps were dangling down around the middle of the hose. Anyway while I was tightening things up I noticed that the brass hose fitting going into the tank swivels. Is it supposed to? I tried gently adjusting it. There is a lock nut next to the brass fitting, but I was unsure if because the fuel line is copper and rigid that maybe the fitting was supposed to be loose and swivel?? Anyone know? It doesn't seem to leak like the connection at the carb did.

Is this a compression fitting (the kind with the little ring) or a double flare (like brake lines)? Either of these should be tight. But perhaps there is a third possibility..... | | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 | Heres a pic. What I see is the brass fitting with a brass nut above that. That nut seems to secure the right angle fitting. Then some space above the nut. About 1/16 inch that goes to the part that swivels in the orifice of the tank outlet. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/daniel1060/46GMC095.jpg

That appears to be just a 1/8" pipe elbow, and I assume a short pipe nipple going into the tank. No shut off. You might want to drain the tank and put a shut off there, as the way it is, if you want to work on the fuel pump or change filters (if you put a filter between the tank and pump) you'll need to drain the tank.
This fitting pictured, should be tight, and not swivel-y. If it's not leaking while loose, its just the pipe-dope sealing the gap.
That's my 2¢! I could be wrong, maybe its some kind of high tech NASA fitting that swivels. I'd take a few minutes and take it apart to see what's what. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 141 | Ill drain the gas and disconnect the fittings and see if rotating it will tighten it up.
Thanks.

It was a pressure screw fittng that when you tightened it correctly it was 180 degrees off. So the previous person working on it just left it loose. My sollution was to back the connector fitting off half a turn, then tighten the fitting to the tank till it was fast. All is fine now. Life is good. On to the temp gauge.
