(the bigger the number the Lower the gears)

Cruising range between 2000 and 3000 rpm, stick in the 2000 to 2500 range for economy and engine life, higher if you are hauling heavy loads uphill.

Used to run it wide open for miles in second gear trying for 60mph.Never blew and oil pressure guage never moved past the 10 psi mark. also never hit 60 in second.Just run that Jimmy wide open. Jim Proffit says the long motor can take it.
