My 56 TF Project has a 79 Z-28 Camaro front clip and rearend. All four wheels have at least one stud that spins when tightening the lug bolts. One of the rear wheels actually have two that spin. I really hate to pull axles on the rearend. Is there any other way to cure all this. The front discs should not present a problem, but I've never tackled a rearend before. Any suggestions?

youll have to pull the axles to make it right ..if the stud seat is shot mount a wheel an tourque it down before ya remove the axle so when ya pull it out ya can put a few spots of weld on the backside .

If I'm not mistaken you can pull the rear drum and jockey around to where you can drive out the old studs one at a time and pop in a new stud without pulling the axles. As for the lugs spinning, I think that there are several sizes of knurled ends with slightly different diameter knurls.... .486, .580, and .509. The PO might have gotten in a hurry and installed the incorrect knurl diameter which would allow them to spin.

You might give it a try before you pull the axles. Most parts houses carry the various size of knurled studs and if everything else fails Summit Racing has them in 5 packs. Hope this helps.

Yes, you can replace the rear axle studs without removing the shaft. Probly got a few that have bad knurls on them. Try the flaps first, take an old one with you so they can measure it to get a baseline to go from for the oversize. The Napa #s are ; front-641-1013, rear-641-1005. To intstall them, use a nut (plain nut is better) and a stack of 3 or so washers. Put the stud in the hub/axle, then place the washers over the stud, perhaps with a light coat of grease or antiseize on the threads and between the washers. Then thread the nut on and carefully (NO Impact!!!) tighten the nut until the stud seats. The studs will go right in.
